The Data Fundamental course helps learners lay the most important foundation in their data careers. It teaches 3 of the most important skills: working with database queries, manipulating data with python, and visualizing data using one of the most popular visualization tool.

Wrapping up the first night session with WeCloudData data fundamentals course. Excellent instructor tonight! Very easy to follow and thorough in explanation. Diving right into hands on material forming data sets within Excel and SQL side to side. Showing advantages and disadvantages of using either. Dividing up data sets by dimensions (5W and 1H) and measures (continuous numbers/statistics) smoothly within Excel utilizing slicers and power pivot table. Making data easily readable if you are presenting to an audience that is less knowledgeable in data analytics. After forming data in Excel, we moved over to SQL. The instructor’s teaching approach made coding a lot less intimidating. Following his guidance (and two golden rules), we were all coding with ease! Looking forward to Friday evening’s class already!

This module introduces learners to Python, the most popular data skills, according to the Job Market Report published by WeCloudData. Students will learn the basics of python programming, getting familiarized with programming logics, data structures, control flows, functions and modules, as well as an introduction to Pandas, the most popular Python for Data Analysis library in the Python ecosystem.

Tianshu is a Data Science Assistant Instructor at WeCloudData. Prior to joining WeCloudData, Tianshu worked as a high school teacher in Mathematics in various public and private schools in Ontario. Through his teaching career, he is extremely interested in how data collection, data processing, and data analysis can help students in Statistics and help improve the private school system. In his role of Data Science Assistant Instructor, Tianshu is responsible for material and course designing, leading labs, and providing assistance to students. He is very passionate about exploring the possibilities in Python, SQL, and Machine Learning.
Shaohua Zhang
Chief Instructor (WeCloudData) | Head of Data Science (BeamData) | Startup Advisor and Data Coach
Shaohua is the Co-founder and Chief Instructor at WeCloudData. In the past few years, he has trained hundreds of students and helped many of them launch their data science careers. He is also the CEO and Head of Data Science at Beam Data where he works closely with the industry partners on implementing data science projects. Prior to co-founding the Toronto Institute of Data Science and Technology (WeCloudData), he led the data science team at BlackBerry and helped build the data science practice at Kik. He has also worked with big companies such as TD, Canadian Tire, Sunlife, CIBC, Communitech, and MaRS on upskilling their data teams.
Eric Liu
Co-founder & CEO at WeCareer Inc.
Eric Liu is the Co-founder and CEO at WeCareer Inc.. He has over 25 years of experience in retail, commercial, and investment banking, highly specialized in data management, descriptive analytics, and predictive modelling. He has taught public speaking at Victoria College, data analytics at George Brown College, retail and commercial banking at York University Schulich Executive Education Centre. Previously, he has worked at Siemens, ING Bank, ING Direct, CIBC, GE Money, Scotiabank (Senior Director), Affirm Financial (CRO). Eric holds an EMBA from China Europe International Business School and M.Eng. Operations Research from Huazhong University of Science and Technology.

Frequently asked questions about the bootcamp
WeCloudOpen courses are self-paced. We created free python and sql courses for our learners. The Data Fundamental Course is delivered via live classes. Students get to interact with instructors and teaching assistants. We cover use cases and teach students how to complete mini projects. It’s a great way to get started with data analytics.
We strongly recommend students to complete the data fundamental course before attending the Data Analytics, Data Science, and Data Engineering bootcamps. Students who can prove that they have relevant python and sql skills can be exempted from attending the fundamental course.
The tuition cost of the Fundamental course will be waived when the student join any Data Bootcamp. To get the tuition reimbursement, students need to attend 80% of the classes and pass the course completion criteria.
The lectures are designed to be hands-on. We don’t cover many slides and theories in the fundamental course. We suppose that the students can take WeCloudOpen’s free SQL and Python courses for the basics and details. Instructors will do live demo and expect the students to follow along and complete exercises during some of the classes.
Yes. During each class, the instructors will answer student questions. During the lab sessions that are led by the teaching assistants, students get help from the TAs. We also provide project mentoring sessions in the last week, before the final project presentation. There’re plenty of opportunity to interact with the faculty team and classmates.
Yes! The course is designed to be hands-on and practical. We cover use cases and mini-projects. Over the period of 6 weeks, students will also need to complete a small capstone project.
