Usage and Goal of Prompts

Prompts are textual or audio-based instructions that are provided to generative AI systems, outlining the task that the AI is expected to complete. Prompts act as a communication bridge between human and Generative AI systems. Major goals of prompts are listed below:

  • Provide clear instructions for the desired output/task.
  • Reduce the number of iterations by directing the AI to produce the desired results.
  • Adjust tone, style and structure of AI model’s responses.

By outlining your needs clearly, prompts enable you to make the most of AI technologies like ChatGPT, Gemini , Runway, and Midjourney .

Prompt engineering is emerging as a must to have skill in the Generative AI world. 1. Be Detailed and Specific

Ambiguity is the enemy of good AI output. Make sure to add specificity in prompts about:

  • The kind of content you require (list or summary).

  1. “Summarize this article in 150 words.”
  2. “List three pros and three cons based on the article.”

4. Provide Context When Necessary

Context gives AI a ‘lens’ to focus through. Include context to aid the AI model in understanding the task’s background or intension. This can greatly increase the response’s writing accuracy and relevancy.

5. Use Role-Playing Prompting

Role-playing guides the AI models to adopt a specific expertise or persona. This is especially helpful for tasks that require domain-specific knowledge.

Prompt: “Act as a data scientist. Explain the concept of overfitting in machine learning to a non-technical audience.”

Hybrid prompts provide more specialized and efficient results by combining pre-existing prompts with unique instructions.
