I started my career in engineering, specifically as a Maintenance Engineer at a vehicle company.
What made you want to pursue a career in Data Science?
My decision to delve into data science was fueled by a desire to expand my knowledge in working with data and utilizing machine learning for predictive modeling, moving beyond classical statistical methods.
Can you tell us a bit more about yourself and your journey to where you are today?
I initiated my journey with a master’s in Quality System Engineering at Concordia University, where my courses were centered around statistics, probability, project management, maintenance, and predictive modeling. Post-graduation, I enrolled in a Data Science program at WeCloudData, which equipped me with the professional skills needed for a career in this field. After completing the program, I transitioned into the role of a Data Scientist.
What did you find most enjoyable or interesting about the Data Science program at WeCloudData while being a student? Was there any aspect of our course curriculum or teaching style that stood out to you?
The overall satisfaction came from the courses, teaching style, and the opportunity to work on real client projects. The practical experience gained from these projects, both external and internal, was invaluable.
How did the Instructors and Teaching Assistants (TA’s) support you during the program? Did you find their knowledge and expertise helpful?
The instructors and TAs were supportive and knowledgeable. They were always available to answer questions and provide guidance.
Based on your previous education experience, how did online classes compare to learning in-person?
For me, online learning was preferable due to the flexibility it offered. The ability to focus on the course material at my own pace was a significant advantage.
Do you have any tips for current students on how to be successful in online classes?
My advice would be to delve deeper into the topics before each class. Reading and researching beforehand can enhance your understanding and make the sessions more productive.
How do you feel the real client projects helped you when it came time to find a job?
Real client projects were instrumental in landing my job. The direct relevance of my project to the job I secured played a crucial role.
How long did it take you to find a job after graduating from WeCloudData?
It took me eight months to secure a job after graduating.
How did your mentor support you during the career mentorship?
My mentor, Sarav, provided valuable support by reviewing my resume and LinkedIn profile. He offered insights and resources to prepare for interviews and maintained regular follow-ups to ensure progress.
Finding a job during the pandemic has been a challenge for most. What aspects of your resume and portfolio do you believe helped you secure a job so quickly?
Having hands-on experience in a real client project was a standout aspect of my portfolio that significantly contributed to securing a job quickly.
Can you give us some insight into what the Data Science interview process is like?
The interview process typically involves an initial discussion with HR, a take-home assignment or live coding session, a technical interview with the team, and a final interview with the hiring manager.
What sort of impact do you feel your Data Science diploma from WeCloudData made on potential employers?
The real impact, according to my experience, stems from the project portfolio and the exposure to real client projects during the program.
Do you have any words of advice for current or future students planning on pursuing a career in Data Science?
My advice would be to approach the Bootcamp with dedication and take every step and project seriously. Hard work during the program pays off in the long run.
How has your life changed since you graduated from WeCloudData and gotten a job in the industry?
Thanks to WeCloudData, where I professionally learned data science, I was well-prepared for my job, marking a positive transformation in my career.
